This course is designed for participants who already have solid basic knowledge of working with ABB robots, including basic RAPID programming, operating the FlexPendant and familiarity with the main coordinate systems.
- Location: Artec Robotics training room with hands-on access to an ABB robot
- Duration: 5 days, 40 teaching hours
- Goal: deepening knowledge of complex program structures, system integration, diagnostics and optimization
Day 1 — Advanced program logic and architecture
Theory (09:00–12:30): advanced structures in RAPID — working with arrays of records and multidimensional arrays; efficient flow control with conditional statements and nested loops (WHILE, FOR); modular programming with routines using local variables and parameters.
Practice (13:30–17:00): refactoring code into a modular structure; programming the robot to perform a complex sequence of movements using data from an array.
Day 2 — Motion optimization and tools
Theory: mastering motion control — FlyBy and NoStop; path accuracy and correction with Offs (Offset) and RelTool (Relative Tool); advanced calibration of tools (TCP) and work objects (WorkObject).
Practice: cycle optimization with Speed, Zone and Accur; dynamic positioning with Offs for parts with slight variations in position.
Day 3 — System integration and communication
Theory: communication with external devices — the Ethernet/IP and PROFINET industrial network protocols; I/O setup in the controller; WaitDI, PulseDI and SetGI commands for interacting with a PLC.
Practice: virtual integration with RobotStudio — simulating communication with a virtual PLC; programming the robot to start/stop via external digital signals.
Day 4 — Controller diagnostics and maintenance
Theory: in-depth analysis of errors and codes from the system log; troubleshooting mechanical, electrical and software issues; backup and restore, managing system files and user permissions.
Practice: simulating faults and fixing them; creating a full system backup of the physical robot and restoring a configuration from file.
Day 5 — Real-world industrial applications and final project
Theory: advanced applications — sensor-based control (force/torque, vision), palletizing with variable patterns; cycle optimization; preparation for ABB certification.
Practice: final project — a complex case study (e.g. Pick & Place with a variable number of parts and sensor integration), group work and presentation of the solutions.
This course gives participants not just knowledge, but the confidence to handle the most complex tasks in industrial robotics, turning them into valuable specialists.
Who is the course for?
- Participants who have completed the beginner training or already work with industrial robots at a basic level.
- Engineers, technicians and operators who want to develop deeper skills in robot programming and working with trajectories, coordinate systems and peripherals.
- Production specialists who want to integrate robots into production cells and optimize processes through automation.
- Anyone planning to progress to expert level and build a career in industrial robotics and automation.
What will you learn?
After completing the course, participants will be able to:
- Program complex movements and trajectories — arcs, curves, multi-point paths.
- Work confidently with coordinate systems and kinematics — forward and inverse.
- Use program structures such as loops, conditional statements, subroutines and variables.
- Integrate robots with peripheral devices — sensors, conveyors, input/output signals.
- Simulate and analyze production processes such as pick & place, assembly and packaging.
- Work on a mini project to create and test a program in a team environment.
- Prepare for the next level — expert training with multi-robot systems, machine vision and Industry 4.0 integration.
