ABB Robotics Masterclass

Home / Training / ABB Robotics Masterclass

An in-depth masterclass in programming and operating ABB robots.

Apply
  • Duration: 5 days × 7 teaching hours (45-minute lessons)
  • Format: in person, with a real ABB robot and IRC5 controller
  • Focus: 60% practice / 40% theory
  • Goal: participants gain the knowledge and skills to work on real industrial robotics projects and become independent specialists
Day 1 — Advanced safety and SafeMove

Module 1: international safety standards (ISO 10218, RIA, CE requirements) and the importance of SafeMove in robotic cells.

Module 2: SafeMove configuration — defining protected zones, limits and limiters; working with SafeIO signals. Practice: setting up and testing SafeMove for a specific cell.

Day 2 — RAPID multitasking and events

Module 3: parallel tasks and data management in RAPID — Background Tasks, data sharing and synchronization between tasks.

Module 4: event handling and asynchronous processes — monitoring a safety signal in a parallel task, loops for controlling external devices. Practice: a program with at least 2 parallel tasks.

Day 3 — Integration with external devices

Module 5: hardware integration — external axes (Positioners, Track Motion), synchronization with CNC machines and conveyors.

Module 6: communication protocols — Profibus/Profinet, Ethernet/IP. Practice: CNC loading/unloading and signal exchange.

Day 4 — Complex robotic applications and optimization

Module 7: advanced applications — palletizing and depalletizing with arrays and loops; Pick & Place with sensors and cameras (Vision integration basics).

Module 8: optimization and cycle time reduction — trajectory optimization. Practice: a multitasking sorting/palletizing program, debugging and troubleshooting.

Day 5 — Final project and assessment

Module 9: teamwork and delivery of an integrated project (palletizing, CNC integration, Vision or multitasking).

Module 10: final SafeMove configuration for the project, demonstration and instructor feedback. Certificate awarded for successfully completing the ABB Robotics Masterclass.
