AeroHT's innovations in the world of eVTOL technology

AeroHT (also known as Xiaohu Flying Car) is a Chinese startup specializing in the development of innovative flying cars and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles. As a subsidiary of XPeng Motors – one of the leading electric car makers in China – AeroHT combines expertise in autonomous driving, electric drive systems and aerospace technology to rethink the future of air transport. Since its founding in 2013, the company has become a symbol of bold ideas, such as the world's first hybrid flying car model that can travel both on the road and in the air.

History and mission

AeroHT was founded by a group of enthusiasts inspired by the idea of creating sustainable, efficient transport that would solve the problem of urban traffic congestion. In 2020 the company became part of the XPeng ecosystem, which gave it access to resources and technologies for autonomous driving and electric drives. AeroHT's mission is to “bring everyday transport into the sky” by creating vehicles that combine the ease of a car with the freedom of a helicopter.

Key projects and developments

1. X2: An eVTOL for the urban sky

The X2 is AeroHT's best-known prototype – a two-seat electric flying car designed for urban environments. It uses 8 independent rotors for vertical take-off and landing, reaching a top speed of 130 km/h and an endurance of up to 35 minutes.

  • Design: A lightweight, aerodynamic carbon body that reduces energy consumption.
  • Autonomy: An integrated autonomous flight system, developed jointly with XPeng, that uses LiDAR and computer vision.
  • Sustainability: Zero emissions thanks to electric propulsion.

In 2022 the X2 made a public demonstration flight in Dubai, proving its stability in real conditions.

2. Land Aircraft Carrier (LAC): Hybrid transport

The innovative LAC is a modular system consisting of an electric SUV and a drone that detaches from the car's roof. This solution lets users drive a conventional car for everyday trips, while the drone is kept for emergencies or quick take-offs.

3. Xpeng X3: Integration with XPeng cars

AeroHT works closely with XPeng on the X3 – a flying car prototype that can fold automatically to become an ordinary car. This model is designed to switch smoothly between “driving” and “flight” modes using a system of folding rotors.

Technological innovations

AeroHT is investing heavily in the following areas:

  • High-density batteries: A partnership with CATL to develop batteries that extend flight endurance.
  • Autonomous systems: Using artificial intelligence to manage air traffic and prevent collisions.

Safety: Multirotor systems and parachutes for emergency landings.

Challenges and competition

Despite its ambitious goals, AeroHT has to deal with:

  • Regulatory barriers: A lack of global standards for flying cars and the need for certification by aviation authorities.
  • Infrastructure: Building “vertiports” and drone charging networks.
  • Competitors: Terrafugia (USA), EHang (China) and Airbus are also developing eVTOL solutions.

Future ambitions

AeroHT plans to start testing its first commercial models by 2025, initially focusing on applications for:

  • Emergency medical deliveries in remote areas.
  • Premium urban transport for corporate clients.
  • Tourist flights in megacities such as Shanghai and Tokyo.

Conclusion

AeroHT isn't just building flying cars – it's rethinking the connection between the ground and the sky. With XPeng's backing and an aggressive R&D strategy, the company has a chance to become a pioneer in the new era of urban mobility. The question isn't “if” but “when” flying cars will become part of our everyday lives, and AeroHT seems determined to answer: “Very soon.”
